Moby - Environment
During Moby development process we considered environmental impacts of our decisions at every stage of the product’s lifecycle.
Life Cycle Assessment
The Moby is manufactured in Durlangen, Germany, by Steelcase. Thanks to the Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) method, Steelcase can quantify the product’s environmental impacts to set the stage for further improvements. This method, based on ISO 14044, is selected by the European Union for environmental evaluation. It allows us to measure the environmental impact of our products throughout their lifecycle.
Moby Life Cycle
Moby contains no hazardous materials. The wooden components of Moby are labelled with PEFC (Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification).
The production site in Durlangen has an ISO 14001 and EMASII certified environmental management system. The powder-coat painting is solvent and heavy metal free and releases no VOC.
Minimised packaging weight and volume help us improve filling rates and thus require less energy for shipping.
The wooden components release virtually no formaldehydes, in line with the E1 Low Emissions Standard (EN13986).
End of life
Moby is 99% recyclable, modular and easy to disassemble using normal hand tools. At the end of its life, Moby will be recycled through the new Steelcase Environmental Partnership Program.
Moby Environmental Certifications
With Moby we can provide three Product Environmental Profiles (PEP), an environmental declaration according to the objectives of ISO 14021.
Moby complies with the German environmental certification “Blauer Engel ”.
The wooden components of Moby are labelled with PEFC (Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification).
The particle boards comply with the low emission “E1 Standard” (EN13986).
