B Free Lounge - Environment
During B Free Lounge development process we considered environmental impacts of our decisions at every stage of the product’s lifecycle.
Life Cycle Assessment
The B Free Lounge is manufactured in Sarrebourg and Wisches, France, by Steelcase. Thanks to the Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) method, Steelcase can quantify the product’s environmental impacts to set the stage for further improvements. This method, based on ISO 14044, is selected by the European Union for environmental evaluation. It allows us to measure the environmental impact of our products throughout their lifecycle.
B Free Lounge Life Cycle
Materials
B Free Lounge is made between 25% and 34% recycled materials. B Free Lounge contains no hazardous materials (no Chrome, no Mercury and no Lead) and no problematic materials (no PVC). The packaging consists of cardboard and LDPE film, both containing 30% recycled material. Paper and packaging use water based inks without solvent. 
Production
B Free Lounge was designed to be made with minimal waste, energy consumption and environmental impact. The production sites have ISO 14001 certified environmental management system.
Transport
Packaging weight and packaging volume are both minimised, helping us improve filling rates and requiring less energy for shipping.
Use
To maximise the B Free Lounge working life, the fabric can be easily exchanged. The 100% wool fabric is labelled with the European Flower. This ensures reduced environmental impacts over the whole life cycle, including no emission of hazardous substances during use and extended resistance to daily use, hereby increasing product lifetime.
End of life
B Free Lounge is between 90% and 99% recyclable by weight. The cardboard and LDPE film used for packaging are100 % recyclable.
B Free Lounge Environmental Certifications
With B Free Lounge we can provide three Product Environmental Profiles (PEP), an environmental declaration according to the objectives of ISO 14021.
The polyester fabric is labelled with the “Oeko-Tex 100 Standard”.
The pure wool fabric is labelled with the “European Flower”.
B Free Lounge is certified with the Indoor Advantage™ Gold certification, a high level certificate for indoor air quality.
