During Tenaro development process we considered environmental impacts of our decisions at every stage of the product’s lifecycle.
Life Cycle Assessment
The Tenaro is manufactured in Rosenheim, Germany, by Steelcase. Thanks to the Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) method, Steelcase can quantify the product’s environmental impacts to set the stage for further improvements. This method, based on ISO 14044, is selected by the European Union for environmental evaluation. It allows us to measure the environmental impact of our products throughout their lifecycle.
Tenaro Life Cycle
Materials
Tenaro contains 34 % recycled materials. Tenaro contains no hazardous materials: no PVC, no cadmium, no lead, no chrome, no mercury, and no flame-retardants. Tenaro packaging consists of cardboard (manufactured from 80 % recycled material) and LDPE film (Low Density Polyethylene). The LDPE film contains 30%recycled material. Printing inks are water-based inks without solvent.

Production
Tenaro was designed to be made with minimal waste, energy consumption and environmental impact. Powder-coat painting is VOC-free and free of heavy metals. Glue used to attach edge on table is water based and releases no VOCs.
Transport
Flat packagings help us keep our transport volumes as low as possible and improve filling rates.
Use
Tenaro is modular and easy to upgrade or repair which ensures a long life of the product. To ensure an appropriate lifetime, it is enough to clean the surfaces once or twice a year with a camp leather cloth. For the daily cleaning use a smooth duster. Wood particleboard follow the low emission E1 (EN 13986) standard for Formaldehyde.
End of life
The recyclability is 99 %. Tenaro is modular and easy to disassemble using normal hand tools. Plastic parts weighing more than 50 g are marked for recycling, as well as those big enough to be marked. All materials of the packaging (cardboard, Expanded PP and LDPE film) are 100 % recyclable. EPP edge protections are usually returned and directly reused (a global average of 40 % and a 80-85 % rate for Germany, Austria, Switzerland). If broken during transport or installation they are repaired. In Germany Steelcase is connected with the packaging take-back system of Interseroh. Therefore the packaging (cardboard and film) automatically goes back in the recycling process.
Tenaro Environmental Certifications
With Tenaro we can provide an Environmental Product Declaration (EPD), according to the objectives of ISO 14025, based on Life Cycle Assessment (ISO 14044).
Tenaro complies with the German environmental certification “Blauer Engel ”.
The wooden components of Tenaro are labelled with PEFC (Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification).
The particle boards comply with the low emission “E1 Standard” (EN13986).
