Steelcase Spanish plant receives the PEFC certification for its chain of custody for wooden products. All European plants are now fully certified PEFC.
FISP Certification
Steelcase has been awarded a British FISP certificate (Furniture Industry Sustainability Programme) in acknowledgment of its pioneering “Life Cycle Thinking” approach and sustainable manufacturing ethos. The body tackles matters including sustainability and environmental management. Certificates are awarded to manufacturers following an extensive audit and recognise superior sustainable business practice.
100 Most Influential People in Business Ethics
Allan Smith, Steelcase Vice President of Marketing and R&D, was ranked 79th in the 100 Most Influential People in Business Ethics listing by Ethisphere Magazine, a global publication dedicated to illuminating the important correlation between ethics and profit. Under Allan’s environmental leadership, Steelase has brought to market the most Cradle-to-CradleSM certified products in any industry, has become virtually VOC-free in manufacturing processes, and has set the goal of eliminating the use of PVC by 2012.
First Renewable Energy Credit Buyer to Sponsor Commercial-Scale Wind Farm
Steelcase Inc. becomes First Renewable Energy Credit Buyer to Sponsor Commercial-Scale Wind Farm. Company makes long term commitment to facility to be named “Wege Wind Energy Farm, sponsored by Steelcase.” Steelcase will purchase all the green power produced by the farm for at least the first five years of its operation. The power expected to be generated by the wind farm on an annual basis represents approximately 20% of the power Steelcase facilities require in the U.S. (US specific award)

Steelcase was named one of the 100 Best Corporate Citizens by Corporate Responsibility Officer Magazine. Ranked number 17, Steelcase is the highest-rated of the 24 companies making a debut on this year’s list.
Multi-site PEFC certification
All European Steelcase plants have received the PEFC certification, which attests that a manufacturing plant exploits forest resources in a way that respects the environment.
Prize for Enterprise & Environment
A complete workstation (a chair, a desk and a storage unit) from Steelcase's product portfolio has been selected by the Prize for Enterprise & Environment organised by the French Government.
Madrid Environmental Prize
Steelcase Spain was awarded the 2007 Environmental Prize for its management and innovation in environmentally-friendly production methods, by the Regional Government of Madrid, the Madrid Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Madrid Employers Confederation.
WasteWise Gold Achievement Award
Steelcase was honoured with a Gold Achievement Award from WasteWise, an Environmental Protection Agency program that helps U.S. organizations to reduce waste. For the 3rd year in a row Steelcase was awarded for its accomplishments in waste prevention, recycling collection and buying or manufacturing recycled content products.
The Building Awards in New York
Workstage takes top honor for best new construction project in the nation at the The Building Awards in New York. The Grand Prize for New Construction recognized Workstage’s development for Royal Caribbean Cruises, a Gold LEED certified building in Springfield, Oregon (US specific award)

Workstage receives Project Innovation Award for the Walker Surgical Center in Grand Rapids, Michigan. The project received an exemplary rating at The Buildings Awards in New York.
